A time of release

As the year is about to come to a close, it’s natural to reflect on what we’ve accomplished and, more importantly, what we’re ready to release.

This is a powerful time to shed old habits, limiting beliefs, and emotional baggage, creating space for fresh energy as we move into 2025.

Why Releasing is Essential Before the New Year

Holding onto unresolved emotions or situations weighs us down both physically and emotionally. When we cling to old energy, we stagnate. Releasing is a way to create space for clarity, growth, and expansion. This doesn’t mean erasing the past, but rather freeing ourselves from what no longer serves us. Whether it’s a habit that drains us, a dynamic in a relationship that feels stuck, or a mindset that holds us back, letting go clears the path for something new to come in.

When we don’t release what’s weighing us down emotionally, it manifests in our physical body. You might notice tension in your shoulders, tightness in your chest, or frequent headaches. Personally, I’ve experienced low back pain after clinging to emotional stress for too long, and it wasn’t until I acknowledged and released these feelings that I started to feel physically lighter. Holding on to unresolved issues affects our nervous system, digestion, and even immune function—making release a crucial aspect of holistic health.

How to Release with Intention:

  1. Journaling for Release:
One practice I love during this time is reflective journaling. I list out things I’m ready to let go of and then tear the page out. Recently, I wrote down several outdated beliefs around how I should be managing my time—balancing my full-time job, healing work, and studying for the MCAT. I realized I was holding on to unrealistic expectations, so I tore the page, burned it safely, and felt an immediate sense of lightness.

  2. Declutter Your Space:
Clearing physical space is just as important as emotional release. Recently, I decluttered my workspace, getting rid of old papers, books I no longer reference, and unused equipment. I noticed that as soon as my desk was clear, I felt more focused and less weighed down. This act mirrored how I wanted to feel mentally as I step into the new year—clear and free of excess baggage.

  3. Breathwork or Meditation:
Using breathwork is another way to release stagnant energy. When I feel overwhelmed, I engage in a simple breath practice I learned from Energy Codes work. Try inhaling deeply, holding for a moment, and then releasing with an audible sigh. This technique instantly calms our nervous system and helps me feel grounded. During the December Full Moon, I found this practice especially effective in letting go of stress that had built up over the holidays.

Releasing isn’t just emotional; it’s physical and mental too.

Take time to consciously let go of what no longer supports your journey, and welcome the space for new beginnings in the coming year.
