A time for healing
There is a Full Moon today, December 15th, and it's an ideal time to explore how lunar cycles influence our physical and emotional well-being.
Full moons have long been associated with heightened emotions, energy shifts, and even physical symptoms like disrupted sleep or increased tension in the body. This lunar phase is when the moon’s energy is at its peak, amplifying both what we’ve nurtured and what we need to release.
On a spiritual level, the Full Moon symbolizes completion—a time to reflect on what’s come to fruition since the New Moon. As the moon shines brightly, it often illuminates things we need to let go of, such as unresolved emotions, limiting beliefs, or old patterns that no longer serve us.
If you are seeing this, it’s a call to consider how this affects your body!
Energetically, the Full Moon may stir up restlessness, vivid dreams, or even physical tension, especially around areas like the stomach, head, and lower back. These sensations could be your body’s way of processing built-up stress or emotional clutter. The body speaks to us in whispers—pay attention to areas of discomfort and tension as signals of what needs healing.
Following are three short healing practices to try for the Full Moon:
Grounding Meditation: During the Full Moon, grounding is essential to release the intense energy that often builds up. One of my favorite ways to ground is by sitting outside, barefoot if possible, and visualizing roots extending from the base of my spine into the earth. This simple practice helps me feel connected and grounded, especially when life feels chaotic. Recently, after a hectic week of juggling work, studying, and MCAT prep, I found peace by just sitting in silence, visualizing this root connection. It's amazing how quickly this can calm your body and clear your mind.
Body Scan: A Full Moon can illuminate areas in our lives that need healing, and our bodies often give us clues if we listen. Try lying down in a quiet space and gently scanning your body from head to toe, checking in with each part. Where do you feel tension or discomfort? For me, I tend to feel tightness in my lower back and hips during full moon periods—likely linked to unprocessed emotions or stress. Breathe into those areas and consciously release as you exhale. Imagine the tension melting away with each breath, clearing space for calm and balance.
Herbal Tea Ritual: I’ve always loved tea, but during the Full Moon, I turn it into a sacred practice. Herbs like chamomile, lemon balm, or valerian root not only calm the nervous system, but they also act as gentle allies to help us slow down and reconnect. Recently, I started making a nighttime tea blend to wind down before bed, allowing myself to reflect on the things I’m ready to release. As I sip, I set the intention to let go of stress or any emotional weight the Full Moon may have brought to the surface. It’s a nurturing way to prepare for deeper rest and renewal.
The Full Moon is a time to ask yourself: What can I celebrate and what can I release?
Whether it’s emotional baggage or physical stress, this is a potent moment for cleansing and renewal.
